And an extra special Congratulations to our Granville High School girls for their 2nd place finish IN THE STATE and Sydney King for winning her 1st State Title in the 500 free as a freshman!

Granville High School daily announcements 2/28/10:
Congratulations to the Men's and Women's Swimming teams for an outstanding performance at the Ohio Division II State Championships. The ladies laid claim to their first-ever State Runner-up title!! Also, congratulations to freshman Sydney King who was Granville's first-ever female State champion in the 500. Swimmers who earned All-Ohio recognition were Sydney King, Lori Davis, Keely Lovern, Kassandra Mestemaker, Makenna Dunlap, Alex Untied, Allison Schroeder, and Kelsey Haller. The Men's program placed 13th in the State and was led by senior Jamie Datz who placed 12th in the 100 Free. All-Ohio recognitions were given to Jamie Datz, Seth Stahl, Trung Le, Jack Barrett, Tommy Spichiger, Cody Washka, and Brian Mincks.

The Granville Swim Team had a strong showing at the Northeast Classic in Canton Ohio this past weekend. Freshman Sydney King placed second in the 200 Freestyle and won the 500 Freestyle. Teaming up with Sydney to win the 200 Freestyle Relay were Allison Schroeder, Alex Untied, and Lori Davis, and the 400 Freestyle Relay consisting of Sydney King, Allison Schroeder, Lori Davis, and Kelsey Haller. Also placing at Finals at the invitational were Kelsey Haller, Allison Schroeder, Lori Davis, Keely Lovern, Alex Untied, and Kassandra Mestemaker.
Finals qualifiers for the boys’ team were Jamie Datz, Tom Barrett, the 200 Medley Relay consisting of Seth Stahl, Jack Barrett, Jamie Datz, and Trung Le, and the 200 Free Relay consisting of Trung Le, Tommy Spichiger, Cody Washka and Jamie Datz.
On Friday, the Granville girls’ defeated Newark High School 106 to 78 and defeated Newark Catholic 117 to 58. Winners for the girls’ team were Becca Leavell, Emilie Dunlap, Arika Taylor, Hannah Datz, and Abby Moller.
The Granville boys defeated Newark High School 112 to 11 and defeated Newark Catholic 86 to 85. Winners for the boys were Derek Esh, Chris Stone, and Zed Huff.

The Granville Lady Aces Swim Team defeated last year's State Runner-up, Bishop Hartley, in a tri-meet with Columbus School for Girls. First-place finishers for the ladies were Sydney King in the 100 Free and 100 Backstroke, Lori Davis in the 100 Fly and 50 Free, Allison Schroeder in the 200 Free, Kelsey Haller in the 500 Free, and the 400 free relay consisting of Schroeder. King, Davis, Haller, and Schroeder.
The Granville Men's swim team defeated Bishop Hartley 67-37. First-place finishers for the Aces were Jamie Datz in the 200 IM and 500 Free, Tom Barrett in the 50 free, Brian Mincks in the 100 Back, the 200 medley consisting of Stahl, Jack Barrett, Datz, and Washka, the 200 Free relay consisting of Trung Le, Stahl, Barrett, and Mincks, and the 400 Free relay consisting of Le, Stahl, Datz, and Washka.

The Granville Swim team had a strong showing at the Ned Reeb Invitational. The girls’ team placed fourth overall behind Division I State Champions Upper Arlington, State Runner-Up Bishop Watterson, and Solon. Leading the Lady Aces was freshman Sydney King who won the 500 freestyle and took third in the 200 freestyle. Other final qualifiers were Lori Davis, Keely Lovern, Allison Schroeder, Kelsey Haller, Kassandra Mestemaker, Alex Untied, and Makenna Dunlap. The boys also had a strong showing, placing 14th overall. The men’s team had numerous finals qualifiers, including Trung Le, Jamie Datz, Seth Stahl, Jack Barrett, Tommy Spichiger, and Cody Washka.

The Granville Swim Teams had record-setting swims on Saturday at the Athens Invitational. The Lady Aces took first place and broke several records on the way to victory. The 200 medley relay record was broken by Sydney King, Kassandra Mestemaker, Keely Lovern, and Lori Davis. Sophomore Allison Schroeder re-broke her IM record, junior Lori Davis broke the 100 fly record, freshman Sydney King broke the 500 free record, and freshman Kassandra Mestemaker broke the 100 breaststroke record.
The Granville men’s team took a close second to Division I powerhouse Thomas Worthington. The men were led by sophomore Seth Stahl, sophomore Jack Barrett, senior Jamie Datz, and junior Trung Le. These four combined for two first-place relay finishes.
